Our Aim

Your first visit to Duncan Smith Dental

We welcome new adult patients on a Private basis, new children on an NHS basis and also offer monthly Dental Care Plan options.

To register with us please telephone, stop by or request an appointment through our website. Our receptionist will contact you and arrange a mutually convenient appointment time.

We aim to make your first visit to us as pleasant and enjoyable as possible. On your first visit you will be introduced to the people who will be looking after you and who in time you will hopefully come to consider as friends and health partners.

Family Dentist Musselbrough Edinburgh Scotland UKFor your convenience we will send you a friendly text message to your mobile phone, as a reminder, 48 to 72 hours in advance of your dental appointment. We do appreciate how busy everyone is these days!

At your first consultation you can expect to be with the dental team for up to 30 minutes and during this time we will be finding out how best we can help you. At this visit we feel it is more important to get to know you and establish a good relationship, therefore unless there is any emergency treatment necessary we confine your first visit to an examination and discussion of treatment options.

You will be given a thorough oral examination for both signs of tooth decay and gum disease. Soft and hard tissues will be screened for any early signs of possible abnormalities, relevant x-rays may be taken and finally, an examination of your bite and jaw will also be made. Unfortunately, oral cancer is becoming more common in this country and we have a policy of thoroughly assessing our patients at each examination.

You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you like and will be encouraged to make yourself at home and to familiarise yourself with your new surroundings. We understand that on the first visit you may like to bring a friend or relative as a familiar face and we are very happy for you to do this.

If there is anything you do not like about your smile, we will also look at the colour, size, shape and position of your teeth and will explore the many options we can provide to enhance your smile.
We can then proceed with a discussion of the findings and recommendations. A written estimate and treatment plan tailored to your individual requirements will be given for your consideration. Further appointments, if necessary, can be arranged at your convenience.

At all times during this first visit and throughout subsequent appointments we endeavour to keep you fully informed. We feel that this is of great importance in helping you and your dentist arrive at the best decision on treatment options.

Our patients are very important to us and you can be confident that we will always listen to your fears and anxieties and keep you fully informed as treatment progresses.
In order to maintain long term oral health we advise you to attend regularly for your dental check ups. This enables us to monitor your teeth and gums and ensure overall good oral health.
